In 1978, the founder of Aperture Laboratories, Cave Johnson, was exposed to poisoning by lunar rock dust in an attempt to try to turn them into gel, discovering the properties that this gel had as a portal conductor, trying that with his new portal technology he could find a cure to their poisoning. During these early years, its founder Cave Johnson secretly performed in the underground facilities of an old mine of salt, the development of several outlandish experiments that include the use of the primitive portals, and making use of his relationships with the United States government recruits soldiers and astronauts to perform these dangerous tests.
In 1956 the Eisenhower administration offered a contract to Aperture Laboratories to supply shower curtains to all branches of the military except the Navy. There is really very little science in these products - the name was chosen to make the curtains appear more hygienic.
Their products provided low-tech portals between the interior and exterior of showers. In 1952, Aperture Laboratories begins operations as a manufacturer of curtains bathroom.
